Jungle Bird cocktail

First created in Kuala Lumpur in the 1970s, the Jungle Bird is a modern tiki favourite that combines fruity pineapple juice with the bold bite of Campari.
Unlike sweeter rum cocktails such as the Mai Tai, the Jungle Bird has a more complex, bittersweet edge – making it closer in character to a Negroni, but with a tropical twist. It’s one of the rare tiki drinks where Campari plays a starring role.

FAQ
Can I use light rum instead of dark rum?
You can, but it will taste lighter and less rich – more like a Daiquiri in profile than the deep flavour of a classic Jungle Bird.
Is the Jungle Bird related to the Negroni?
Yes, both the Jungle Bird and the Negroni feature Campari for a bitter backbone, but the Jungle Bird adds tropical pineapple and rum instead of gin and vermouth.
What food pairs well with a Jungle Bird?
Its fruity yet bitter character makes it a great match for spicy food, just as the citrus in a Margarita complements Mexican dishes.
What other cocktails should I try if I like the Jungle Bird?
If you enjoy the balance of sweet and bitter, try the Mai Tai, the Boulevardier, or the rum-based Zombie.
